A stay at Lenna of Hobart is not complete without a trip to Hobarts renowned Bruny Island.  With ferries departing daily from Kettering, Bruny Island is an experience that you will cherish.

Rugged surfaces, rolling green pastures, eucalypts and spectacular coastline make up much of the breathtaking scenery on Bruny Island.  Bruny Island is Tasmania’s premier island destination, popular for a day trip or a relaxing holiday getaway!  This hidden gem off the coast of Hobart is a popular destination visited by thousands of travellers every year!  Bruny Island feels remote and rugged with long stretches of rocky coastline and beaches. Its contrasting scenery coupled with it’s arctic wildlife and impressive array of locally harvested food make Bruny Island an experience to savour.

A bit about Bruny Island…..

  • Roughly 100km long, it is made up of a North and South Island separated by a narrow isthmus known as The Neck
  • The weather on Bruny Island can change in an instant.  It can be sunny one minute and pouring with rain the next!  Bring wet weather gear when you visit!
  • Bruny Island offers a range of accommodation options from camping to self contained cottages.

Things you must do while you’re on Bruny Island…

  • Explore the beaches.

Be amazed at the colours of the ocean here on Bruny Island.  Feel the salty sea breeze through your hair at the southernmost point of Australia.  One of the most scenic parts of the whole island is The Neck, where you can climb the wooden steps up to a viewpoint and be spoilt with spectacular views of the ocean and coastline.  You may be lucky enough to see some penguins or an albatross from up here!

  • Visit Cape Bruny Lighthouse

Meander along a scenic drive from The Neck until you reach the southern most point of the island. Here you will find the Cape Bruny Lighthouse standing all alone on the windswept coastline.  This is a beautiful part of Bruny Island and well worth a visit.

  • Sample some of the delicious local produce!

Bruny Island is well known for its mouth watering local food, wine and whiskey!  Dine on fresh oysters, pungent cheeses and fresh berries or visit one of the many vineyards or whiskey distilleries.  If you like oysters, visit Get Shucked Oyster Bar, or if you prefer eating cheese and drinking cider, take a trip to Bruny Island Cheese Company. If you still have room for more, try some fudge at Bruny Island Providore or eat fresh berries at Bruny Island Berry Farm.

  • Take a wilderness safari

A wilderness safari is one of the best ways to see the unique wildlife that inhabits Bruny Island.  Pennicott Journey’s Wilderness Safari is a great way to see many species such as New Zealand Fur Seal, Southern Elephant Seal, Leatherback Turtle, Spotted Handfish and Migration Whales.
